Web 2.0 is sometimes called the “read-write web” and refers to the 2nd generation of the world wide web. The term Web 2.0 become popularized in 2004 by tech media mogul Tim O’Reilly and generally refers to the time period between 2004 and the start of Web 3.0. Web 2.0 marked a big shift in the consumer internet experience with the advent of many new technologies including easy-to-use web content publishing platforms, social media, and blogging. It was during this Web 2.0 era that companies such as Facebook, Youtube, and Twitter were launched. During the Web 2.0 era web browser based applications became the norm as did mobile devices with dApps and internet connectivity.
