Back to glossary

A szabo is a denomination of Ether equal to 106 ETH (0.000001 ETH), named after cryptographer Nick Szabo. It is one of several historical sub-units used to express small values of Ether in a more human-readable way, sitting between a finney (0.001 ETH) and a gwei (109 ETH) in some naming schemes.

Although wallets and applications today typically quote prices in ETH, gwei, or wei, the term szabo is still sometimes used in documentation and discussions about Ether denominations.
