Back to glossary

The term shill is used to describe a person that heavily promotes a particular service or asset, often one that they have a strong financial interest in. Many crypto “shills” are marketers or project developers who send unsolicited emails, DMs, and social media messages which contain their sales pitches. This form of “shilling” may be unethical or illegal, depending on the circumstances. Shilling is so commonplace in the world of NFTs and cryptocurrency tokens that the term has almost become a non-derogatory phrase which

means crypto or NFT project marketing.
