A recovery phrase (or seed phrase) is a list of human-readable wordstypically 12 or 24that encodes the master secret for a noncustodial wallet. Anyone who has the recovery phrase can reconstruct the wallet and gain full control of all associated addresses, tokens, and NFTs.
Recovery phrases must never be shared, typed into untrusted websites, or stored in insecure locations such as plain-text files or email. Best practice is to store them offline, in multiple secure backups, and only use them when absolutely necessary (for example, when restoring a wallet on a new device).
