On blockchains like Ethereum, a nonce is a number associated with each account that counts how many transactions that account has sent. Every new transaction from the account must use the next sequential nonce. This prevents replay attacks and ensures that a user’s transactions are processed in the correct order.
For everyday NFT and DeFi users, nonce management mainly matters when canceling or replacing pending transactions for example, by sending a new transaction with the same nonce and a higher gas price to override an earlier stuck transaction.
