The Ethereum Difficulty Bomb refers to the purposeful and rapid increase in mining difficulty which will occur when ETH 2.0 upgrade is released. The goal is to incentivize the transition from Proof of Work (PoW) mining to the less computationally expensive Proof of Stake (PoS) validation. The Ethereum difficulty bomb has been delayed multiple times as the developer team refines the Ethereum 2.0 code.
